Feeding & Swallowing Therapy

Red flags for feeding difficulties:

  • selective eating

  • gagging frequently (sometimes vomiting)

  • moving slowly (or not at all) through texture continuum

    (e.g. difficulty moving beyond purees)

  • spitting out food as soon as it goes into mouth

  • not moving food around in mouth to chew

  • decreased food variety

  • texture aversions

  • avoids touching and/or tasting foods

  • limited food inventory (less than 20 preferred foods)

  • occasional fussiness

  • frequently eats a different set of foods than family at mealtimes

  • will avoid a previously preferred food (“jagged” foods) and then reintroduce it after 2 weeks
